Blaufrankish

Name of wine: Blaufrankish, vintage 2008, dry, 11 %vol Viticultural Origin: Maribor area and the sub-area of Pohorje hillsides Geographical Position: Škalce, Trstenjak, 280 - 330 meters above sea level (804 - 948 ft.), exposure: South.   Climate: Continental climate with strong Pohorje influence Vineyard: Vertically arranged, integrated grape production, overgrown with grass, density of plantation: 4.000 plants/hectare, single Guyot. Soil, ground: clay, marl

Characteristics:

Alcohol: 11.19%vol, Residual sugar: 1,6g/l, Total acidity: 5.74g/l, pH: 3,42
The grapes were stemmed. Classical maceration of red must was performed in vinificators with pumpovers every three hours. Maceration was carried out at 25 degrees Celsius and it lasted for 10 days: alcoholic fermentation took seven days and during the remaining three days cooling and mixing of must were done, as we intended to alkalize some more phenols. Then the must was gently pressed and wine transfered into oak barrels (283 L) where it aged for 2 months and then again decanted into the bigger barrels, where it stayed for additional period of 9 months. It was bottled in the middle of August 2009 and left ageing inside of the bottles for a month.

Color: Intensively red ruby color which reveals youthfulness
Nose/Bouquet: Nicely varietal, reminiscent of fresh fruit (currant). This wine has a full-bodied bouquet, which is extremely open and laced with the scent of roast.
Palate: The first impression is immensely pleasant, fruity and fresh. This is due to beautifully balanced acidity, which in combination with still ripening tannins, ennobles the wine with vivaciousness and makes it easy drinkable. This is a medium rich wine, which continuously develops. Sublime effort and a fabulous achievement.
