Welschriesling

Name of the wine:  Welschriesling, vintage 2009, dry, 12,0 vol.%

Viticultural Origin: Maribor area and the sub-area of Pohorje hillsides

Geographical Position: Škalce, vineyard cottage, 370-390 metres above sea level, (1148-1247 ft.), southern exposure.

Soil: Clay, marl

Vineyard: Vertically arranged, integrated grape production, overgrown with grass, density of plantation: 4.000 plants/hectare, single Guyot.

Climate: Continental climate with strong Pohorje influence

Characteristics:
Alcohol: 12 vol.%, residual sugar: 1,2 g/L, total acidity: 5,51g/l, pH: 3,39
During harvesting, we only picked healthy grapes, which were then stemmed and gently pressed in a membrane press. The must was settled for 24 hours and alcohol fermention took place at 14-18 degrees celsius.  The wine was bottled in January 2010.

Color: Light golden, crystal clear
Nose/Bouquet: Fennel, hawthorn, eucalyptus; this wine seems rich and reflects an extreme profusion of its origins
Palate: Welsch Riesling overwhelms us with its flamboyance and the evident presence of rich fruitness with a slight mineral note, which in combination with mature acidity and the aroma of supreme length, summs up as smooth and strong wine.

To be served with: Meet from minced lard, “Kranjska klobasa” (protected name of a famous Slovene sausage), spreads with pastes, sour soup, …
